General Information

The Piedmont Hills High School Guidance Department's primary goal is to assist students in the selection of classes and to educate students about graduation and university admission requirements. The PHHS Guidance Center is located at the far end of the main office.

In order to provide the best service possible to the Piedmont Hills community, you will have the opportunity to schedule an individual appointment with your assigned counselor. Appointments can be made with Mrs. Ohlendorf, our counseling technician, in the Guidance Office or by calling directly 347-3843. Every effort will be made to return phone calls and emails within three business days. During peak times this timeline may not be possible. Students are assigned a guidance counselor based on their last name.

SCHEDULE CHANGE POLICY

The only schedule changes that will be approved are listed below:

  • a gap in your schedule
  • a duplicate course (same course listed twice in schedule)
  • a course you have successfully completed
  • missing a graduation or college requirement

Schedule changes will be considered based on course availability up until the last day of the first week of school.  A student who withdraws from a course after this deadline shall receive an F grade on his/her permanent record unless otherwise determined by the principal.

WALK-IN AVAILABILITY

Counselors are available on a walk-in basis during break and lunch.

COUNSELOR APPOINTMENT POLICY

In order to best serve students and parents, an appointment process is in place which guarantees individualized attention. Students must fill out an appointment request in the Guidance Office if they wish to schedule an appointment. Counseling appointments will be scheduled in 15 minute intervals; a follow-up appointment can be scheduled if more time is necessary. Students are responsible for:

  • notifying the Counseling Technician of any approaching deadlines
  • notifying the Counseling Technician in the event of an emergency that must be addressed immediately
  • notifying their teacher of their absence and requesting all required work
  • remembering their appointment date and time
