Happy November

Hello Parents,

Can you believe that it is already November? This is the one of the shortest months of the school year: 18 school days out of 22 possible school days! Yes you read that correctly.  After Thanksgiving, there’s only 20 days of school before the Holiday Break! Your children have been busy both in their classes and in their clubs and activities, and what very recently seemed like a new school year has settled into a familiar and rewarding routine.

  • First Tuesday Parent Meeting

    • Topic: Naviance- a college, career and financial aid tool.
    • Place: L-Building
    • Time:  6 - 8:00 p.m. (Light refreshments will be provided)
  • The Piedmont Hills High School Drama Department proudly presents “I DON'T HAVE  A CLUE” Written by Craig Sodaro. The play will run from November 16 –18, 2017. Come and see how talented our students are.
  • Friday, November 10: NO SCHOOL: VETERAN’S DAY
  • Wednesday, November 22-Friday, November 24: NO SCHOOL: Thanksgiving Break.

  • It was not until 1941, that congress declared Thanksgiving as a national holiday. It was declared to be the fourth Thursday in November.
  • The first known thanksgiving feast or festival in North America was celebrated by Francisco Vásquez de Coronado and the people he called "Tejas" (members of the Hasinai group of Caddo-speaking Native Americans).
  • Turkeys have heart attacks. When the Air Force was conducting test runs and breaking the sound barrier, fields of turkeys would drop dead.
  • Fossil evidence shows that turkeys roamed the Americas 10 million years ago.
  • 91% of Americans eat turkey on Thanksgiving Day.
  • Every President since Lincoln proclaimed Thanksgiving Day. But in 1939, 1940, and 1941 Franklin D. Roosevelt proclaimed Thanksgiving the third Thursday in November to lengthen the holiday shopping season. This upset people.
