I attended Santa Clara University as an English major with an emphasis in Ethnic Studies and a minor in Urban Education. I became part of the accelerated program at SCU and began the credentialing program in the summer before my senior year. During that process, I also decided to get a Certificate in Psychology for at-risk youth in order to learn how to keep struggling students in the classroom and guide them on their road to success.
I knew from a young age that teaching was my passion, and went straight into interning at Overfelt High School in 2008, teaching English Language Development 1 and 2. Although difficult to dive right in rather than student teach, the love I had for the profession grew tremendously and I knew I had found my true calling. After my internship, I ended up moving to Live Oak High School in Morgan Hill for 6 years, teaching everything from English 1 Remedial to AP Language and Composition. In my heart of hearts, I knew I wanted to come back to my Alma Mater and reclaim the Pirate name. It has easily been the best decision I have made and have I loved every minute here at PHHS.
