Welcome to Mr. Andrews' Class

I am excited to work here at Piedmont Hills! I believe education is truly just as much about educating hearts, as it is about educating minds. I frequently encourage students to take care of themselves by taking "brain breaks" and learning ways to cope with stress. In terms of academics, I have a Bachelor’s Degree from Purdue University, with certifications in social studies education, government, economics, and history.  I have my Master’s Degree from the University of Miami with a focus on the psychology of social change and education. I have taught A.P. U.S. Government & Politics, A.P. Microeconomics, U.S. Government, Economics, AVID, and World History.  I am an assistant Girls' Volleyball coach, Mock Trial co-advisor, Volleyball Club advisor, and Bring Change to Mind Co-advisor. In the past I have also advised the Computer Science Club & Amnesty International. I also serve as a 504 Plan Coordinator, on the Professional Development Committee, on the WASC (school accreditation) & the Positive Behavior Interventions & Supports teams.

I work extensively outside of the classroom, as well. My primary focus has been on education programs, social and emotional learning, brain training, positive psychology, business analytics, and people processes. Clients & partners include: College Board, World Economic Forum, Aetna, StudentsFirst, The Hawn Foundation, Teach for America, Global Impact Collective, ICAAD, Purdue University, ETS (Educational Testing Service), IB (International Baccalaureate), HealthCorps, EdConnective, Sisters of Charity Foundation, Panorama Education, Global Shapers, Kids Connection Haiti, Miami-Dade County Public Schools & Taksheel Foundation. I am proud to say I have worked with over 100 schools and school districts on education initiatives improving the lives of students and teachers.

In my "spare" time, I enjoy reading, discussing world events, traveling and learning about other cultures. I also spend time in the sand, golfing and playing volleyball (yes, I should not be golfing in the sand, but I am not a pro golfer). I look forward to learning more about you. Feel free to reach out to me at any time.

Warmly,

-Mr. Andrews

Class Vision

Impact:  Scholars have the Power

An honest vision for Mr. Andrews’ Class

To look at my students with both eyes closed,
and imagine the day when that gap is closed and deposed.
To discover potential and fire within,
and look at my students' achievements begin.
For believing in them, is believing for them
and it is my belief, that that believers always win.
They will pass, they will not fail
and if they fail to pass, then I fail as well.
My vision is clear, and that vision is impact.

Scholars have the power.

The power to impact.
Impact.
My scholars will fully realize their potential, and the impact they can have on the world.
My scholars will love learning and will have developed and will have strengthened their internal locus of control, becoming self-motivated.
My scholars are those who seek understanding and to be understood.
My scholars are proud of who they are and where they come from in the community.
I will allow my scholars to impact me as well.
I will appreciate and respect diversity of all types in my life.
I will never give up on a student no matter how frustrating the strife.
For it is by believing in my scholars that they too begin to believe in themselves.
Subsequently, their impact will begin to spread rapidly throughout the world.

So please I urge you to take the time.

And think about what you can find. And define.

For now your time is suspended in my rhyme,

And I give it to you real and for free, not a dime.
Because when all eyes are closed, and the gap is deposed,
their voices will be heard and the truth will be exposed.

IMPACT
