PHHS Coaching

The process of becoming a coach:

  1. Our coaches go through an online application. They must fill out and online interview questionnaire. Provide an introduction letter, resume, references and so on.
  2. Then they are called and interviewed in person.
  3. The best applicant is chosen by the Principle, Athletic Director and other coaches.
  4. Then that coach must fill out an applicant packet, data sheet, TB test, Oath statement, Child Abuse Reporting Requirements, Code of conduct forms, Get finger printed and wait for clearance, become CPR certified, first aid certified, attend a coaching class, a concussion class, a sudden cardiac arrest class, Mandated reporter certification.

Our coaches go through so much to get where they are. To help student athletes.  Coaching high school is not like coaching anything else.  At the youth level all the coaches worry about is if their athletes show up for practice and games. Most of the kids live in the vicinity and they have been playing with each other or know about each other. When you get to tournament or travel teams those kids are pretty dedicated and they have tons of experience.

In high school coaches need to mold a team together from students that are within the school boundaries. These boundaries pull students that are used to being rivals and our coaches need to pull them together as a team. Our coaches also have to deal with grades and attendance in school and attendance in practice. Not to mention trying to notify colleges about our athletes.  There is so much on our coaches plates that the public does not see.
